I'm confused about how much I should charge my EV. Some people say 80% is the way to go to make the battery last longer, but then BMW and Mini are like, 'Nah, charge it to 100%!'"

What do you guys think? What's the best way to charge your EV?

I don't think you need to stress about only charging to 80% every day. It probably won't hurt the battery in the long run. And honestly, on road trips, you'll want to use as much of the range as possible. What really kills batteries is letting them sit completely full or completely empty for a long time. But, I've heard that LFP batteries are different they seem to be okay sitting at 100%.

It really depends on the type of battery your car has. Mine has an lfp battery, and the carmaker actually recommends charging to 100% once a week.

It’s a bit of a balancing act, generally, charging to around 80% is better for long-term battery health, but occasional 100% charges won’t hurt, especially for long trips.
