I've been driving my new (used) 2022 MINI SE for about a week now. I'm wondering if it's cool to charge the battery up to 100% every day? I keep hearing about that 20-80% rule for EVs, but I haven't found any mention of it in the manual. Would sticking to 80% be better for the battery's lifespan? And is there a way to set a charge limit on this thing?

Personally, it's a preference. I charge mine up to 100% everyday since batteries tend to degrade in the long run anyways. But just make sure that when it reaches 20%, you'll charge it right away.

congrats on the new Mini SE! You’re right, the 20-80% rule is pretty common advice for EVs to keep the battery healthy long-term. Charging up to 100% occasionally is fine, but if you can stick closer to 80% for daily charging, it’s supposed to be gentler on the battery. Unfortunately, Mini doesn’t have a charge limit setting yet, so it’s kind of a manual process for now.

Welcome to the Mini SE club! I had the same questions when I got mine. You’re totally fine charging to 100% every now and then, especially if you need the range, but sticking to around 80% on regular days is easier on the battery in the long run. It would be awesome if Mini had a charge limit setting, but for now, I just unplug mine around 80-85% when I’m charging at home. You’ll get the hang of it, and it’ll soon feel second nature! 👌

The 20-80% rule is good general advice for EVs to help extend battery life, but Mini doesn’t have a built-in charge limit setting like some other brands. It’s safe to charge up to 100% for longer trips, but if you’re just running around town, stopping around 80% is supposed to be better for battery health. You can keep an eye on it through the app, and just unplug when you’re near 80%. Hope that helps make it a bit clearer! 👍

EV charging can be a whole new world! The 20-80% rule is more of a “best practice” thing to help the battery last longer, but it’s not strict. Going to 100% once in a while, especially for a longer drive, is no big deal. Unfortunately, there isn’t a charge limit option with Mini, so I just use the app to monitor the charge and unplug when I’m around 80% for day-to-day driving. Once you find your routine, it’s not too bad. 😁
