I’ve run into an issue with my 2018 F56 Cooper S that’s left me scratching my head. Since I got it two months ago, I’ve had to add about 2 liters of coolant, and recently I noticed the coolant boiling after a drive. There’s also hissing from the coolant cap, but the engine fan wasn’t running until I turned the ignition back on. When it did start, it seemed to run at a low speed.

Is the fan supposed to have a high-speed mode? And should it keep running after the ignition is off, like my old R56 used to do?

Fan speed is controlled by the coolant temperature. What does your gauge show? Losing 2 liters of coolant in just two months is excessive, so something’s definitely off.

I recommend taking it to a shop to have it inspected, especially the coolant cap

Yeah it sounds like something’s off with your cooling system. The fan should have a high-speed mode and keep running for a bit after you turn off the engine.
