Renewing insurance on my SE and they want to know the "tracker type." Completely lost here - it's definitely the tracker that works with to find my car, but no idea what the official name or type is for insurance purposes. Anyone know what to put on the quote docs? Thanks!

The tracking service you currently use doesn't qualify for the insurance since it most likely doesn't provide actual updates. Insurance companies typically require these for trackers that are approved.

While your SE's connected services can help locate it, they might not qualify as an insurance-approved tracker. Insurance companies often have specific requirements for trackers that give them discounts.

For the Mini SE, the tracker type is usually listed as “factory-fitted” or “manufacturer-installed tracker.” That’s the built-in system used for locating the car. I’d suggest checking with your dealer or referencing the car’s manual to confirm, but “factory-fitted” should work for insurance purposes!

I totally get the confusion, it took me a while to figure it out too! For most Minis, including the SE, the tracker type is factory-installed. It’s typically enough to list it as “manufacturer-installed tracker” on the insurance form. If you’re unsure, just call the dealer or your insurer. They deal with these all the time and should be able to confirm. Best of luck with the renewal! 🤞

Hey there, been in the same boat! For the Mini SE, the tracker is usually referred to as a “factory-installed tracker” or sometimes a “GPS-based tracker” in insurance terms. Most insurers should understand what you mean by either. I actually called my insurance company last year, and they explained that anything built into the car from the factory is often labeled “manufacturer-installed.” If that doesn’t sound right, you can try “OEM tracker” or “in-built GPS system.” Hope that helps make the renewal process a bit easier!

Oh man, I feel your pain! I had this exact question last time I renewed, and it was a little confusing to get an answer. For the Mini SE, it’s usually called a “factory-installed tracker” or a “manufacturer-installed GPS system” in insurance speak. My insurer initially didn’t know either, so I had to call the dealer, and they confirmed it’s just the built-in one MINI uses. I just wrote “factory-installed tracker” on the form, and it worked fine for me. I think insurers just want to make sure it’s a reliable tracker and not an aftermarket one. Hope that helps, and good luck with the renewal! 🙏
