Anyone else driving a base model 2022 Mini SE missing the auto-dimming rearview mirror? Seems like such a standard feature these days! I skipped the sunroof coz short people problems! but would love the anti-glare upgrade. Has anyone done a DIY mirror swap? Wondering if the wiring harness is already there or if I'm in for a bigger project. Map lights and rain sensor are nearby, so maybe it's a simple swap? Hoping to avoid a trip to the dealer!

But hey! anyone else excited for the EV?!!!

I'm also looking for this as well. I have an SE too, and the headlights can be a bit rough, especially with SUVs and trucks blinding you in the rearview mirror.

This has been an issue for me. I’d also be interested in doing this. If anyone here could walk us through, please help us!

Totally feel you on missing that auto-dimming mirror. Really feels like it should be standard by now! 🤷‍♂️

I haven't done it on my Mini, but I've done similar swaps on other cars. If you've already got the map lights and rain sensor nearby, there's a good chance the wiring is there. Might be worth popping off the cover and checking for a harness. If it's not, it's still doable with a bit of extra wiring work. 😖

I say go for it! Nothing beats the satisfaction of a clean DIY upgrade. Be adventurous! 😎

I’ve got the same base model 2022 Mini SE, I also noticed the missing auto-dimming mirror. I thought it was just me. I haven’t attempted the DIY myself, but from what I’ve read on some other forums, the wiring for the dimming feature might not be in place if your car didn’t come with it. So we might not have an option to upgrade. 😭

You could check with a dealership or ask a pro to avoid a hassle. Also, I’m super excited for the EV! Loving the drive so far, how’s it been for you? ✌

I’ve done a similar upgrade on an older Mini and it was pretty straightforward. ✌

Chances are, since you’ve got the rain sensor and map lights, the wiring harness should be there for the auto-dimming mirror too. You’ll need to source a compatible mirror (the BMW ones should work) and just check for power to the mirror. If you don’t find the harness, it’s not impossible, you can tap into the power for the map lights. It’s a little extra effort, but totally worth the anti-glare boost. 💪

Yeah, skipping the sunroof is a good call if you’re not a fan of ducking in your own car! 😂As for the mirror, I’d double-check the wiring near the map lights, it’s usually the easiest way to tell if it’s prepped for the upgrade. If the wiring’s not there, you could probably still run a wire without too much hassle. 😓

Personally, I try to avoid dealer trips too unless it’s absolutely necessary. And yes, the Mini SE is a blast! loving the instant torque on this thing! 💪
