Our new Mini Electric range display has us a bit confused! Picked it up last week showing 125 miles, but after charging at home we only ever see a max of 100 miles at 100%. We've read about using the battery bars instead, but is the mileage display normally this off? Even tried eco-driving but no major change. Is this normal behavior for a Mini Electric, or should we get it checked? Husband's a little worried about the switch to EV now!

An EV's range can vary depending on several factors like driving style, weather conditions, temperature, highway speeds, and climate control use. However, the displayed range typically decreases as you drive, reflecting the actual energy used. This doesn't necessarily mean the range itself is decreasing permanently.

totally normal! The range display on the Mini Electric can vary quite a bit based on driving conditions, temperature, and recent driving style. It’s pretty common for it to show less than the full potential range, especially right after charging. The range tends to settle after a bit more driving, so no need to worry yet, give it a little time to adjust! 👍

I had the same reaction when I first got mine. The range estimate can definitely seem off at first, it often reads lower after a few drives and adjusts based on how you’ve been driving and the weather. 100 miles at 100% isn’t unusual, especially if you’re using climate control or driving in colder weather. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to it, but over time, you’ll learn to trust the battery bars a bit more than the mileage number. The car learns from your driving habits too, so it should gradually become more accurate!

What you’re seeing is totally normal for the Mini Electric. The range display calculates based on recent driving conditions, so it might show different estimates each time you charge. If you’ve done a lot of short trips or used climate control, the estimate can go lower than the full 125-mile capacity. Many Mini drivers find the battery bars more reliable because the mileage estimate can be influenced by various factors, like driving style and temperature. Just keep driving, and it should adjust. You’re good to go!

It’s totally understandable to feel a bit thrown off by that range estimate! The Mini Electric has a bit of a learning curve with the range display, 125 miles is more of an ideal max, but most folks see around 100 to 110 miles, especially if you’ve been using A/C or heat. The range will adjust based on how you drive, so after a few weeks, it’ll likely feel more accurate. For now, just keep an eye on the battery bars, as they’re usually a steadier indicator. No need to worry, it’s a typical quirk with EVs, and you’ll get used to it ! 😉
