Hey, got a quick one for y’all – is it cool to leave my Mini plugged in after it's fully charged during cold weather? I've heard it might help with preconditioning the car. Anybody know if this trick actually works, or could it end up messing with the battery in the long run?

You’re safe leaving it plugged in after it’s fully charged. EVs like the Mini are built to manage battery health, so the charging system stops drawing power once it’s at 100%. In cold weather, staying plugged in can help with preconditioning, which will make those chilly starts a bit easier on the battery. You’re good to go! 😁

I had the same question when I first got my Mini! Leaving it plugged in after a full charge won’t hurt the battery, especially since the charging system cuts off automatically to prevent overcharging. Plus, in cold weather, it’s actually helpful because it’ll keep the battery at an optimal temp, which is better for range and preconditioning. I’ve done it all winter, and it’s been working like a charm! 😎

EVs like the Mini have built-in systems that stop charging once they reach full capacity, so there’s no risk of overcharging or damaging the battery if you leave it plugged in. In cold weather, keeping it plugged in can help maintain the battery’s temperature, which is beneficial for preconditioning and preserving range. The charging system will only draw a little power when needed to warm the battery, so it’s pretty efficient. If you’re planning to precondition, keeping it plugged in can actually make it more effective!

Totally fine to leave it plugged in, especially when it’s cold out! The Mini’s charging system knows when to stop, so it won’t keep “overcharging” the battery or anything like that. I leave mine plugged in, and it really helps with preconditioning in the morning. Just make sure you’ve got your charging time settings right so it’s ready to go when you are. Don't worry your battery’s safe! 💪
