So my wife just got her hands on a used 2021 Mini SE and we've got a 7KW home EV charger installed. But shes having a bit of a puzzle with the charging settings. She tried switching to the reduced setting initially but she's only getting around 3.8 KW, and even switching to normal hasn't made a difference. Now we're both scratching our heads over what these low, reduced, and normal settings actually do and how they affect the charging speed. I'm not exactly a Mini expert myself, so any advice or insights would be super helpful right now.

It sounds like there might be a limitation with the charging rate. My advice is to go speak with your installer. Many wallboxes offer varying charging rates. Check to see if there's a setting that is limiting the amount of power sent to your car.

It's hard to figure out how to charge the Mini SE! The low, reduced, and normal settings change the flow of power to control how fast and efficiently the charger charges. If you're only getting about 3.8 kW on reduced, it's probably because the charger can't send as much power. Also, you might want to check the settings on your home charger to make sure it's set up right for the Mini SE. If the problem is still there, calling Mini support might help! 🤷‍♂️

There are some parts of the charging settings that might not make sense. Most of the time, the "reduced" setting will lower the power output to help the battery last longer. This means that the kW may be less than expected. Although you changed the setting to "normal," it seems odd that you are still at 3.8 kW. Check the settings again to make sure that your charger is working right. 🤔 If you're still not sure, calling Mini's customer service might help you understand better!

At first, it might be a little hard to figure out how to use the charging settings. It's supposed that the "reduced" mode will save energy or be easier on the battery, while the "normal" mode will help you get a faster charging speed. You gotta get used to it. If the output is still low after making adjusting the settings, you should check the charger's manual or settings. Sometimes, all that needs to be done is to make sure that the settings works together. it takes a bit of fiddling though 😵

it’s great that you’ve got a 7 kW home charger. The 'low', 'reduced', and 'normal' settings serve different purposes: 'low' is for slow charging (like overnight), 'reduced' conserves energy, and 'normal' maximizes speed. If switching to 'normal' still keeps you at 3.8 kW, check if the charger is set to output 7 kW. If it’s compatible but still underperforming, it may be worth consulting the user manual or reaching out to Mini support. They can provide specific insights based on your setup! Ask a few dealers as well.
