my Mini makes this whirring noise when I activate pre-conditioning or the regular AC. Sounds like the AC compressor or maybe the heat pump kicking in. Anyone else experience this? Is it normal, or should I be scheduling a service visit?

You dont have to worry, my dealership informed me that this noise is perfectly normal and you dont have to get it checked or serviced.

That noise you hear is the heat pump working. It's how EVs save energy when they're warming up.

The colder it is outside, the louder the heat pump usually gets. It's just how they work

Yep, that’s exactly it...The heat pump helps maximize efficiency by using less energy than traditional resistive heaters. It can get a bit noisy in cold weather, but it’s totally normal and helps keep things efficient.
