My recent EV charging experience has been frustrating. The connector refuses to securely lock in, and charging rarely occurs during the designated time slot. Surprisingly, this all began acting up following a recent update. Are there any similar encounters?

Because the charging port is exposed to the elements, you should inspect the plug and socket to ensure they are clean. To be clear, some of those prongs function as tiny messengers, informing the EV that it is safe to charge, rather than the actual juice. Another thing to check is the clicky thing on the plug. Sometimes it gets stuck or the plug isn't fully inserted, and the clicky thingy doesn't lock.

Just a heads-up from an experienced EV owner: if you have the grandma cord, the one that clicks in immediately when you plug it in. I recommend using the Type 2 ones. They are smarter. They wait until your car starts juicing up before locking into place. So, if you have your car set to charge at night, the fancy lock will not activate until it is officially charging time.

Good to know you found out the reason why the charger malfunctioned. Regained your peace of mind knowing it does not come with your car. Appreciate you posting your experience. It encourages others to learn and share also some knowledge.

Hey, that sounds frustrating! I haven’t had the exact issue, but I know some updates can mess with charging settings. Have you tried re-selecting your time slot and seeing if it “re-locks” the schedule? Sometimes toggling the settings after an update can get things back to normal. Worth a shot! 🤷‍♂️

Oh, I’ve definitely been there! After one of my updates, my Mini’s charging also got weird, charging wouldn’t start at the right time, and the connector felt loose. For me, re-selecting the charging schedule helped. It’s like the update messed with the settings, so giving them a reset or adjusting the charging time by a few minutes can sometimes help. If the connector still doesn’t lock in, it might be worth visiting the dealer, they can check if it’s a software glitch or a physical issue. Hope it’s a quick fix!

That sounds super annoying, especially since it was working fine before the update! My Mini did something similar a while back. I couldn’t get it to stick to the schedule, so I ended up setting it to charge immediately as a temporary fix. Not ideal, I know, but it’s a workaround until they roll out another update. If the connector isn’t locking properly, a visit to the dealership might be helpful, they can make sure the update didn’t disrupt any settings or cause a hardware issue. 😓

Oh man, updates causing problems instead of fixing them is so frustrating! I had something similar happen with my Mini, charging schedule went haywire, and the connector felt finicky. I ended up resetting the whole charging schedule, and it seemed to fix it. It’s like the update just reset everything, so I had to reselect my preferred charging time. If that doesn’t work, maybe swing by the dealership? They might have seen this before, and it could be a quick software tweak. Hopefully, it’s nothing too complicated.
