I’m seriously eyeing a Mini Electric, but these service costs are ridiculous! I’ve heard that BMW charges over $500 for Mini EV service. Like, what? no oil changes, no filters... so what exactly are we paying for here? Anyone actually been through Mini EV service? Are we getting ripped off, or is this the norm? Need the real scoop before I pull the trigger!

I don’t understand how going electric is cheaper when a charger costs about a grand, and vehicle prices tend to be higher with similar service costs. For example, I get my 3-liter Audi A8 serviced for around $250, which covers an oil and filter change.

A lot depends on location and incentives. In the US(northwest) my charger was $600 & I received a $550 rebate plus $300 to install. Our gas is $3.75-$4.25/ gallon and electricity is 9 cents per kilowatt so operating costs are drastically reduced. Maintenance costs are a little less and way less frequent(every 2 years). The big deal with dealerships is they are trying to make up for the lack of maintenance fees with inspection fees. My local dealership dropped those fees in half when I said I would do most of it myself(checking brakes, tires, cabin filter, etc) they offered to do it all for much less so if it is a good shop they will work with you. Hope that helps, it is so different for each case based on where you live and what kind of dealership you have..

I guess it makes sense that dealerships are trying to squeeze out every dollar since EVs need less maintenance, but still… Might have to find a solid indie shop for the basics or DIY what I can and only go to Mini when absolutely necessary.
