I'm considering changing my stock 17-inch wheels' tires from 205 to 215 in size. My goal is to increase grip, particularly in damp environments. Either 215/45/17 or 215/40/17 are options I'm thinking about.

Has anyone previously done this? Will there be no rubbing or other problems when it fits? Although I am aware that I may lose some range, I am prepared to forgo that in exchange for improved performance.

That's a good point. It's really important to think about your car's needs and the possible effects of different tire kinds. Before buying though, borrow a set of tires from someone in your community and try it out. At least you get the feel of the actual tire.

Do it no worries, and I can confirm that the range lose is insignificant.

The Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 and Evo3 are probably the best alternatives. If you have the standard Pirelli EV tires, you might notice they don’t grip as well. The problem is, there aren’t many other Runflat options in the 205/45R17 88W size.
