It might be because of his scheduled departure time. Since I slow charge, it can take a couple of nights to fully replenish the battery, especially after long drives. My guess is the car is trying to reach 100% by his departure time.
The tracking service you currently use doesn't qualify for the insurance since it most likely doesn't provide actual updates. Insurance companies typically require these for trackers that are approved.
That happened to me when I just got mine. What I did was I kept on unlocking/locking using the tiny button on the driver's door handle. After doing that, I was able to unplug the cable. You could give that a try and see if it helps.
