What's the deal with the light ring colors on my Mini SE?

I've been noticing the different colors on the light ring of my Mini SE and I'm kinda curious about them. Do they have a specific meaning, or is it just for show? Also, does anyone know if there's a way to turn this feature off? Honestly, I'm leaning towards having it off altogether.
